Overview:
The Orbitz Worldwide Android team has been
hauling for over a year now and we are looking for someone to join the
team. We are literally reinventing travel as we speak. Right now, as you
are reading this we are doing green field, native Android app
development and are looking for your input. We are a small, but lethal
team. Our latest release, the “Hotels by Orbitz” Android app was a
Google Play staff pick and maintains a 4.5 star rating from consumers.
Today, the team has four developers as well as dedicated design, qa and
product. We are looking for someone who wants to contribute to not only
the code base, but the team. Your ideas can and will be added to the
product roadmap. Orbitz Worldwide is a leader in global, mobile
commerce. More than 20% of Orbitz hotel bookings are made via mobile
devices and we were ranked #4 in the 2013 edition of Internet Retailer’s
Mobile Commerce 400 list based on projected mobile sales in 2012
(highest-ranked full-service travel company and behind only Amazon,
Apple, and Marriott). This is an amazing opportunity as your code will
be used by millions of our customers around the world.
Responsibilities:
So, what is a typical day like?
Most
of your day will be spend coding and collaborating with the team.
You'll be provided a Mac and can use the tools you want to be
productive. We use git. There are Android devices at everyone's desk.
You will collaborate with other development teams too (the iOS team sits
right next to us).
Our
team has defined an agile process that works for us. We have a daily
standup each morning. Every other week we demo changes, have a
retrospective and plan our next sprint. Our team defined this process
and we are constantly evaluating it to make the team productive and fun.
Qualifications:
- Android (huge plus, but not required)
- Java and/or relevant object oriented programming
- Ruby/Rails (plus but not required)
- Linux
- Git
- Above all, we are looking for a good person who cares about what they are working on and who is passionate about technology.
