Orbitz is currently looking for a: Lead Engineer

Responsibilities:

Lead Engineers are hands-on engineers with extensive experience within the domain of a feature or component team. Equally they are recognized and respected as leaders within their sphere of influence; within their own team they must be natural leaders. They are able to prioritize amongst competing demands. They can serve as the technical lead on a feature during Envisioning and Definition. They serve as a resource for other team members, often mentoring less experienced engineers as a way to transfer knowledge and build competency. They are likely to be involved with a Solution Architect during Definition to ensure that stories are documented sufficiently and backlogs are well formed. They are recognized within the organization for their deep knowledge within a vertical in the travel industry. Lead Engineers report to Feature and Component team leads. Lead Engineers consistently reinforce their sustained mastery of the job requirements for a Senior Engineer.

Qualifications:

Technical Depth: 

1) Expert in a relevant open source and/or licensed software technology. Demonstrated by   certifications, publications, contributions, speaking engagements, and hard-earned production experience.

2) Capable of triaging a production incident for their own applications in addition to all layers above   and below their applications.

3) Able to identify, utilize or avoid recurring patterns within their relevant application stack.

4) Shows broad-scale systems-level thinking and implements appropriate technical architectures that enhance the fundamental enterprise architecture.

5) Expert at designing for testability.

6) Pragmatically define and refine standards.

Qualifications: 

• MS in Computer Sciences or related field or related, relevant experience.
•  7+ years experience in development
• Expertise in server-side Java, application servers, object oriented design, JDBC, XML, HTTP, Web Services, Spring, Hibernate, Ant, and JUnit.
• Very strong background in developing and delivering end to end Web-based eCommerce solutions for high traffic systems
• Experience with high volume, high-availability multi-threaded distributed applications.
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills, excellent analytical skills, flexibility, ability to plan and organize, responsiveness, creativity.
• Demonstrated ability to perform in demanding multi-tasking environments.
• Experience with Unix/Linux or similar Operating Systems, application servers, web servers and scripting languages.
• Should be able to influence team members to take on Technical Debt and organize sessions to help understand the significance of reducing it.
• Not be risk-averse when it comes to refactoring and committing major changes, keeping the larger Organization Architecture in mind.
• Can represent the team in cross-functional forums and establish a good relationship outside the group within the technology and business sides.
• Strong XP programming skills preferred
• Experience with Agile is a huge plus (SCRUM, RUP, Kanban etc…..)
