Orbitz Worldwide is a leading online travel and technology company, but we didn’t need to tell you that—that’s why you want to work for us, right? Orbitz is currently looking for a Sr. BI Data architect to join our team based at Orbitz Worldwide’s headquarters in downtown Chicago.

This position works closely with BI Application Development, Operations, and Product teams, as well as business users at varying levels to understand business needs and priorities, assists the team through planning and implementation phases that align with business goals. The position reports to Feature Team Lead.

Responsibilities:

• Solving critical business needs by modeling the business intelligence database environments. Logically and physically model source system and business intelligence databases and ensure the overall health and performance of the business intelligence database environment, conducting facilitated sessions, and working with developers to create database views as necessary. 
• Develops, manages, and updates data models, including physical and logical models of the data warehouse, data mart(s), staging area, and source systems (as necessary) to meet new and changing business requirements. 
• Serves as Subject Matter Expert in data modeling concepts (star schema, snowflake schemas, normalized & de-normalized data models), and familiar with data modeling tools such as Erwin. In addition to data warehouse analysis & design, particularly using the fact / qualifier models. 
• Coordinates new data development, ensuring consistency and integration with existing data warehouse structure.
• Develops processes for capturing and maintaining metadata from all data warehousing components. Implements dimensional models, including aggregation and indexing strategies. Recommends strategy for database security. 
• Conducts ETL process architecture/design and sizing estimates for large scale data warehousing projects. Develops, tests, and implements extraction, transformation, and load (ETL) architecture.
• Responsible for prototyping solutions, preparing test scripts, and conducting tests and for data replication, extraction, transformation, loading, cleansing, and data modeling for data warehouses. 
• Analyzes performance statistics and recommends improvements. Responsible for gathering and assessing business information needs and preparing requirements, driving requirements through to implementation. Demonstrated ability to evaluate new technology or methods in data warehousing/business intelligence and integrate these trends with the company’s strategic objectives to provide sound recommendations to data warehouse strategy.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or similar concentration, with Master’s Degree preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in data warehousing concepts, practices and  procedures.
• 5+ years as a data warehouse data modeler, in addition to experience with data warehouse/business intelligence projects using Data Warehouse best practices.
• Expert skills in the Business Intelligence architecture such as the ETL process, dimensional modeling, OLAP.
• Good knowledge of ETL architecture & development process.
• Experience in Data modeling tools such as Erwin and Leading ETL tools
• Provides technical guidance and direction in defining the  project/system level information technology and data architecture strategy. 
• Should possess strong architectural, communication skills, be goal oriented, and have a demonstrated ability to produce results
• Strong experience in data analysis, data cleansing, and data transformation is required
• Knowledge of Business Intelligence (BI, OLAP, and ROLAP) tools such as Microstrategy, Qlikview is plus.
