We believe in our people as much as our projects.  We currently have an amazing heads-down team focused on their work, so we are looking for someone who can help us focus more on our team vs our products. The Battle.net user experience (UX) team is seeking a highly motivated, positive, and experienced UX design manager to support the Battle.net design group as a whole and the various roles within the team. This position encompasses partnering with our design leads and managers to help improve our team of talented visual designers, user experience designers, researchers, and editors. You will help facilitate career development, be a champion for team health, and provide personal and team coaching to help our team hit their full potential.  You will also help define and reinforce department standards, help hire and onboard new employees, and encourage and realize training opportunities to ensure folks are contributing their best efforts to the team.


Responsibilities
  • Develop an interpersonal relationship with the team; know their personalities, strengths, and weaknesses.
  • Support the professional goals and development opportunities for the entire design staff.
  • Level up the communications, presentation, and collaboration skills of the design team.
  • Collect, consolidate, and represent team health feedback to department leaders and spearhead team health initiatives.
  • Partner with leads and managers to provide coaching and counseling to the team.
  • Facilitate regular performance feedback and individual development progress tracking.
  • Assist production and department leads with work assignment suggestions.
  • Regularly execute department meetings and assist with various scheduling needs.
  • Plan and execute (or secure) relevant training, conferences, and events for design teams.        
  • Seek collaborative resolution to both intra- and inter- team conflicts.
  • Coordinate and develop the recruiting process by assisting design leads with resumes, phone screening, and interviews while proactively seeking new avenues for recruiting new designers.
  • Assist in the documentation, evolution, and reinforcement of department processes, practices and principles.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment while promoting the design culture and Blizzard Entertainment’s "Learn & Grow" core value.
  • Provide management coaching for other designers with management responsibilities.
  • Ensure high team quality of life with respect to hardware / software, seating, and facilities.
Requirements
  • Passion for leveling up others
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in coaching and mentoring creatives
  • Experience hiring others
  • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and follow-up
  • Experience with staffing and team building
  • Good cross-disciplinary communications experience between engineering, production, and design
  • Experience with software development process
  • Unrelenting self-motivation and initiative
  • Approachable, relaxed, and friendly demeanor
Pluses
  • Degree in management, design, or equivalent professional training
  • Experience in visual, user experience, or web design fields
  • Knowledge of various project management methodologies and practices
  • A passion for video games
