is seeking a highly motivated, positive, and experienced technical
manager to encourage, advance, and support our engineers and engineering
culture.
The engineering
manager's job is to monitor and manage the progress of their direct
reports as it relates to the projects their direct reports are a part
of. This includes assessing their capabilities, providing information to
leads doing work / team assignments, helping to define their individual
work standards, motivating and monitoring them, reviewing progress both
with individuals and relevant management, handling any necessary
coaching and counseling, and performance appraisals.
The engineering
manager is an engineer, but focuses on the progress and potential of
their direct reports.The engineering manager does not do any development
or project management.
Responsibilities

Offer guidance to department leadership to design and modify the organization.

Help assign work responsibilities and allocate people to projects.

Help develop individual work standards and objectives.

Maintain and improve motivation and commitment.

Monitor and review each individual's progress.

Provide coaching (IDPs, mentoring, one-on-ones).
-
Counseling as needed (including PIPs and other corrective / disciplinary actions).

Conduct regular performance appraisals.
-
Promote the engineering culture and "learn & grow" philosophy.

Evolve development guidelines, practices and principles for the department.

Drive recruitment efforts.
Requirements
-
Extensive development experience primarily with C / C++, and / or Java
-
History of managing, coaching, and mentoring engineers
-
Exceptional verbal and written communications skills

Experience with staffing and team building

Knowledge of various project management methodologies and practices

Approachable, relaxed, and friendly demeanor
-
Unrelenting self-motivation and initiative
Pluses

Degree in management, computer science, engineering, or equivalent professional training

A passion for video games
