Position Description

We are looking for actuarial systems analysts with experience in actuarial work, model development, programming and asset-liability modelling to join our team working on the Prophet systems.

The main role will be to direct and support the enhancement of the iWorks Prophet suite of applications, covering Prophet Professional (including DCS and Forms), Glean and Prophet Enterprise.

The specific role will involve working closely with developers of the Prophet System. You will be working to strict project deadlines and potentially working on several projects in parallel. The candidate will be expected to understand the technical nature of the Prophet system and communicate this in a simple way to others. It is also expected that the candidate will become involved in some programming in areas such as Excel Reporting. They will therefore have some experience in Object Oriented Programming and in particular advanced knowledge of VBA will be of use. Additionally some understanding of other programming languages such as C# or C++ will be of use.

The candidate will be expected to develop a deep understanding of some of the more challenging aspects of Prophet such as looping and extended formulae.  Exposure and knowledge of the ALS code will be beneficial. They will have an interest in technology and in particular how insurance companies are using new technologies in their business.

It is expected that the successful candidate will also have involvement in other areas of the Prophet business -the extent of involvement will depend on the communication skills, proficiency with Prophet, business knowledge and personal desire of the candidate to participate in these client-facing activities

50% : Guiding and producing quality software that meets our clients’ needs:
-Actuarial architectural role in moulding the Prophet system
-Definition and validation of requirements
-Setting quality compliance objectives and ensuring those targets are achieved
-Bringing together staff of different disciplines and driving the group to plan, agree and execute a comprehensive delivery strategy.

20% Supporting and providing technical input into Prophet Components such as Excel Reporting.  This may involve programming or reviewing existing code

10% Evaluating the latest technologies (with partners) to ensure Prophet remains at the cutting edge of actuarial modelling systems

10% Developing and maintaining awareness of the business context

10% Providing actuarial systems consultancy support and (specialist) helpdesk support to customers



Knowledge/Experience:

Essential Experience Required;
- Experience of modelling in an “open” actuarial platform, with architectural understanding, involving development of complex extended formulae experience
- Proven actuarial experience – either in life, pensions or GI
- Asset liability modelling and management
- Risk-based actuarial reporting, including Solvency II / IFRS / Principles Based Accounting

Desirable Experience Required;
- Project Management experience
- Knowledge of developments in UK, Continental European and global markets
- Experience of systems integration

Skills:
Essential Skills Required;
- MS Office and SQL
- VBA and some C# or C++ programming
- Project / Work-flow tracking tools, e.g. TFS
- Understanding of programming developments, e.g. parallelisation, cloud
- Ability to diagnose Prophet system issues and the use of various tools to assist this
- Fluent in spoken/written English

Desirable Skills Required;
- Application design and development tools, e.g. Blend, Visual Studio
- Quality Assurance tools, e.g. TestComplete
- Hardware and operating system environments, e.g. virtualisation
- Knowledge of additional languages is desirable.

Qualifications:
- Existing and continued right to work in the UK
- Student or Part Qualified actuary

Competencies:
- Good communication and team-working skills
- Experience managing and prioritising work
- Working to tight deadlines escalating risks and issues
