Linux Kernel Engineer - Core Runtime


Twitter is seeking an experienced software engineer obsessed with evolving the Linux kernel in revolutionary ways.  You should love working at the lowest levels of the software stack looking for innovative ways to maximize performance of our critical workloads on cutting edge hardware technology.
In this role, you will be exposed to Twitter's core infrastructure and application architectures and in-depth knowledge of each component, in addition to submerging yourself in the Linux and open source communities.  You should be excited at the prospect of working with our world class engineering teams and bleeding edge technology to enable highly scalable and performant software stack for a one-of-kind system.
Responsibilities
  • Research and develop Linux kernel optimizations
  • Actively involved in and interface with Linux and open source community
  • Develop innovative solutions at kernel layer to enable Twitter platform vision
  • Hands on debugging of complex production systems issues
  • Collaborate with hardware team to determine and qualify next generation of server platform

Requirements
  • Intimate knowledge of x86 hardware and Linux internals and one or more major subsystems (storage, file systems, network, memory management, etc.)
  • Experience with storage/file system kernel code is preferred
  • Experience working within the wider Linux community
  • Strong programming capabilities two or more: C, C++, Assembly, Python
  • Hands-on experience Linux kernel development
  • Ability to independently lead large development efforts
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross-function teams

Desired Skills:
  • BS or higher in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
  • Passion for elegance and simplicity.
