The Senior Data Base Administrator/Database Administrator is responsible for meeting business objectives by planning for and providing reliable, available
and secure infrastructure systems. This includes effectively executing processes such as tactical and strategic planning and architecture, installation, configuration management, utilization, capacity management, vendor and customer relationship
management and problem resolution.

Essential Job Functions:

Database Implementation and Design
Design and implement development and production databases for maximal performance, scalability, flexibility, and reliability. Install and maintain DBMS software including patches, fixes and version upgrades. Work closely with developers to create and maintain schema objects, design and debug triggers, stored procedures and user defined functions.

Performance Monitoring and Tuning
Monitor and maintain maximum performance of databases. Identify poorly performing queries and work with development teams to tune accordingly. Monitor database logs for hardware, memory or disk space/ capacity issues and take appropriate action. Implement database parameter and configuration changes for optimal performance with the host operating system. Insure the database environment remains in compliance with our vendor license agreements.

Availability, Backup and Recovery
Design and implement processes and procedures to reduce and eliminate database outages and downtime. Implement data backup and recovery procedures to prevent the loss of data from all types of failure. Document, plan and test Disaster Recovery procedures.

User and Data Security
Design, implement and maintain database security strategies that provide the appropriate level of security for users and applications.

Problem Resolution
Coordinates resolution of complex inter-domain technical problems. Resolves architectural issues and problems. Proactively identifies and resolves potential problems before they impact customers.

Configuration Management
For assigned technology domain configurations: analyzes technical requirements; identifies and evaluates alternatives to meet requirements; selects target solutions to meet requirements and obtains consensus and approval for target solutions; develops migration plans; and performs resource tuning.

Capacity Management
Gathers capacity requirements, including SLOs. Applies historical trends to capacity requirements, performs forecast analysis, and builds / updates capacity forecasts for assigned technology domains.

Customer Relationship Management
Demonstrates a high level of service delivery to ensure customer satisfaction. Builds and maintains relationships with peers. Understands and articulates data and database services, products, and value to business and application areas. Proactively works to solve business, application, and infrastructure problems. Provides planning interaction with business areas to identify and prioritize customer requirements.

Tactical Planning
Develops, monitors, updates, and executes tactical plans ensuring alignment of tactical plans to strategic plans. Provides consulting to the development and maintenance of the tactical planning process.

Strategic Planning
Provides input to strategic plans. Maintains long-range (18 plus month) view of industry trends and business, application, and infrastructure requirements for assigned technology domains. Provides technical leadership to the Operation for strategic implementations within assigned technology domains.

Vendor Management
Works with vendors to resolve problems and escalate resolution within the management chain when necessary. Participates in contract negotiations and reviews and in the Vendor Report Card process. Provides feedback to vendors on desired product direction.

Operational Excellence
Pursues and encourages Operational Excellence in all endeavors, leading and striving on a routine basis through identification and implementation of continuous process improvements. Responsible for ensuring appropriate security and privacy measures are implemented on technology solutions to protect Company data from intentional or accidental misuse.

Qualifications

  • 4-year degree in Computer Science or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years experience with Teradata DBMS required
  • Experience with Teradata Backup Tools, BTEQ scripting, and Teradata partitioning required
  • Experience with Teradata TPT Tools preferred
  • Experience with Teradata Viewpoint preferred
  • Experience with data appliance DBMS environments preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years experience with Linux and/or AIX operating systems required
  • Experience writing SQL programming
  • Experience with database and SQL performance tuning
  • Knowledge of database physical and logical design principals
  • Knowledge of Business Intelligence, Business Analytics and data warehousing database design concepts preferred
  • Able to manage and deploy application database modifications
  • Able to provide 24x7 on-call support within a team rotation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Minimum of 2 years experience supporting multiple 24x7 production database system
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to self-direct and prioritize
  • Ability to solve problems
