Overview:
Orbitz is looking for engineers to focus on front-end development of the touch-friendly web experience for our global family of travel websites. You should have a passion for shipping client-side UI code which will be used by millions of people worldwide on their Mobile and Tablet devices. 

We have a long history of support and respect for front-end engineering and with our expansion into the mobile and tablet web and our growth internationally we consider it more important than ever. UI Engineers at Orbitz are core members of our feature teams responsible for building the next generation of interfaces for travel shopping.
Responsibilities:
  • Build next-generation travel web applications with a focus on the client side.
  • Iterate quickly on the consumer facing pages across our global family of travel sites.
  • Develop features across our tablet and mobile web sites.
  • Write front-end code in JSP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Collaborate on UI and UX decisions.
  • Prototype experimental features.
  • Work closely with product leads, designers, information architects, and back-end engineers.
  • Pro-actively look for ways to make our sites better.
  • Advocate for best practices, great usability and exceptional quality.
  • Help other developers take advantage of new HTML5 and CSS3 capabilities.
  • Participate in and lead design and code reviews.
  • Help design and build reusable CSS/JS frameworks and libraries to simplify development.
Qualifications:
  • Expert knowledge of web development with HTML and CSS.
  • Solid understanding of JavaScript and Ajax - with and without use of a library/framework.
  • Strong command of web standards, progressive enhancement and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Experience building consumer facing sites.
  • Demonstrated design and UX sensibilities.
  • Strong logic programming ability.
  • Previous experience with a server-side scripting language (Ruby, Python, PHP, JSP, etc).
  • Understanding of client-side performance and how to improve it.
  • Experience with a version control systems.
  • A strong attention to detail.
  • Previous experience on large codebases.
