The Senior DBA is a productive team member of the Operational DBA team with ability to independently able to suggest and execute a sub-project based solution. He/She has strong conceptual knowledge of the database architecture and database internals. The Senior DBA should be able to perform database related tasks to provide 24x7 operational support.
Responsibilities:
  • Apply advanced hands-on knowledge and ability to perform database administration tasks on Oracle RAC, ASM and Data Guard;
  • Troubleshoot database related issues, provide and present root cause analysis;
  • Perform SQL performance tuning and database tuning;
  • Apply strong knowledge and configuration ability on monitoring tools and code shell scripts for monitoring. (e.g. OEM for Oracle and Unix shell scripting);
  • Install database software, perform upgrades, create and migrate databases;
  • Apply solid hands-on working knowledge of data replication tool with configuration experience on various topologies such as one-way replication, master-master replication etc;
  • Apply strong hands-on backup/restore and recovery knowledge and execution using RMAN;
  • Apply hands on experience on setting Oracle security preferably with Oracle Database Vault product;
  • Learn and support other database platform technologies (such as MySQL);
  • Articulate database issues to the database vendor to seek right and timely solutions;
  • Able to estimate time/effort at sub-project level and be able to justify the estimate;
  • Articulate requirements to Tech-ops team (Unix, Net engineering etc), changes to the change management team for approvals and other teams based on the tasks at hand; and
  • Regularly participates in the OWW interview and college recruiting process and provide objective assessment of the interviewed candidates.
Qualifications:
  • Must have Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, plus 3 years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation OR a Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of progressive experience. Experience must include:
  • 3 yrs. exp. working with 2 complete software lifecycle developments relating to database design and administration,
  • 3 yrs. exp. in database design and support of VLDB database (size 1TB+) on commercial systems, and
  • 3 yrs. exp. in writing database monitoring and maintenance scripts using Unix shell programming.
  • Candidate with Master’s degree must also have 2 yrs. exp. in Oracle RAC, Oracle Data Guard, Oracle RMAN and Oracle OEM, and 1 yr. exp. in Oracle Goldengate.
  • Candidate with Bachelor’s degree must also have 5 yrs. exp. in Oracle RAC, 4 yrs. exp. in Oracle RMAN and Oracle OEM, 3 yrs. exp. in Oracle Data Guard, and 2 yrs. exp. in Oracle Goldengate.
