Job Description :
Our IT team plays a key role in the development of both internal tools
and IT systems as well as supporting our existing Windows / Linux
infrastructure. This role is an excellent opportunity for a driven IT
Specialist to contribute significantly to the development and efficiency
of Matrix Solutions’ operations.
In addition to working as part of the Systems Administration team monitoring , supporting and improving our mixed RedHat Linux and Windows Server development and production environments - you will also play a key role in developing internal systems (primarily in SharePoint) to enhance productivity and efficiency within the business.
Team members have substantial opportunity to drive change and to harness existing and new tools effectively.
The Role
Working at our Wokingham office you will have responsibility for the whole domain encompassing our Head Office in Central London as well as a co-location facility in Bristol.

The Role
Working at our Wokingham office you will have responsibility for the whole domain encompassing our Head Office in Central London as well as a co-location facility in Bristol.
Responsibilities include
- Maintaining the efficient running of the IT server systems.
- Development of Internal tools, primarily using SharePoint
- Investigating, analysing and recommending solutions to performance problems to enhance functionality, reliability and/or usability.
- Participating in the planning, testing and implementation of the firm’s managed server upgrade policy.
- Providing 1st line desktop support to all users in the organisation for Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office and other internal and third party applications.
- Ensuring that users follow company policy on computer usage in order to safeguard vital data and preserve systems integrity and security.
- Assisting with the installation, configuration, and ongoing usability of desktop (and laptop) computers, peripheral equipment and software within established standards and guidelines.
- Assisting with the day-to-day monitoring, backups, maintenance and general operation of the IT infrastructure.
Job Requirements :
- Good understanding of Microsoft Windows 7 and server operating systems.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of networking principles and terminology including DHCP/DNS.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Server products (Windows Server 2008, IIS, Exchange, SharePoint, SQL Server).
- Previous experience of Active Directory, Group Policy, WSUS, application management, centralised Anti-Virus management.
- Security-aware.
- Logical thinker.
- Good communicator.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Friendly and professional manner.
Desirable Skills / Qualifications
- MCSA certification.
- Microsoft Server 2012
- Windows Script Host or Shell scripting
- Exposure to Linux (ideally RedHat).
- Exposure to SQL – Oracle and Microsoft Access.
- Exposure to policy-based firewalls.

IT Platform
Matrix Solutions operates on a mixed technical platform, consisting of Windows Server/IIS and RedHat Enterprise Linux 5 running Oracle 10 and 11, with Glassfish also in place across platforms.
We also host several websites and web-based applications for itself and its clients. The organisation uses Microsoft Exchange Server for email and SharePoint for intranet and internal workflow management.
The successful candidate will have a good level of general IT knowledge but will not necessarily have extensive experience as a systems administrator. Ideally the candidate will have started on the path to Microsoft Certification, and will study for MCSA/MCITP/MCSE qualifications on the job.
The primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be to ensure a reliable and high quality provision of IT services by providing 1st and 2nd line support to the staff in both the London and Wokingham office, but there will also be significant opportunities to participate in upgrades and enhancements to the companies many and varied systems, to evaluate new products and to work with the Development Team and Account Managers on client-facing projects and service provision.
