Responsible for conducting applied research in social computing & related areas. Duties: design, implement & validate algorithms; collaborate with technologists & business stakeholders on transition of research to products; formulate research strategy for social computing; identify opportunities for products by analyzing gaps between current & future capabilities, articulate research agenda to bridge such gaps & put agenda into action; work with research & development team & product & development groups; perform research, design algorithms & prototypes to demonstrate cutting-edge solutions; initiate research projects; conduct original research by developing research plans & defining solution architecture; supervise experiments to validate key algorithms & architectures associated with such prototypes followed by written recommendations; investigate social & collective behaviors of online communities; apply intelligence discovered to serve core business customers; write programs to implement proposed algorithms/solutions & build prototypes as proofs of concepts.

Qualifications

Master's Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Applied Mathematics or related discipline plus 2 years’ research experience on social network modeling or machine learning. Experience must include: 2 years’ experience developing software in a research or industrial setting using one or more programming languages (e.g. Python, Perl, Java, C++/C); 2 years’ experience with statistical data analysis & experiment design using R, WEKA, &/or Matlab; 2 years’ experience collecting, processing & analyzing online social media data. Experience may be gained conducting academic research for Ph.D. or other similar, graduate program and may be gained before, during or after Master’s degree.
