Your team and role

We have doubled the size of our team, but we are still looking to grow! Working on the Windows Functional Team, you'll build secure, privacy-focused applications for Microsoft Windows, using C#/.NET 8, WPF, WebView2, Git and Visual Studio, and work on related projects. Recent projects include:

As a Senior Software Engineer, Windows Desktop App, you'll collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers across Native Apps teams to craft a world-class browser with embedded privacy and data protection features that will revolutionize the way people search, surf, and exist online.



In addition to being responsible for building solutions to get us closer to our first release, you'll help define the roadmap, take ownership of significant application features, and experiment with ways to improve them. The projects you deliver will build the foundation of one of DuckDuckGo's flagship products.



About You

Experience implementing ideas from scratch, owning major application features, and owning their maintenance and improvement over time.


Experience participating in technical architecture decisions that shape the software architecture of a consumer product.


Advanced level of programming expertise, with knowledge of C#. We currently use .NET 8.


A significant level of experience in building customer-facing applications and crafting user interfaces (including at least one desktop application), ideally with WPF, UWP, WinUI, WinForms, or other relevant .NET UI.


Deep understanding of software design patterns such as MVVM, MVP, etc.


Event-driven programming (e.g., using Rx.NET) experience is considered an advantage.



Compensation

$178,500 USD annually and stock options. Compensation is identical within professional levels, regardless of geographic location or team. Compensation for each professional level is transparent across the organization.

4+ years experience in senior leadership roles (Director, VP) including people management, coaching, and mentoring experience.

Your Team and Role

Working on the Security Functional Team, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring our security capabilities keep pace with our rapid product development, directly protecting our users across all our products. As a Senior Web Security Engineer, Browser Platform, you'll conduct browser security audits (special pages, DuckAI integrations, password manager, etc.), execute on SERP security mitigations (XSS prevention, tooling development to help engineers write safer code), manage application security scanning infrastructure setup (aka SAST/DAST integrations in GitHub), and deliver on Internal red-team operations (simulated attack scenarios), support security triage, and more!



About You

7+ years of experience in web or application security (performing security assessments, vulnerability research, penetration testing, or secure code review)


Advanced programming or scripting experience with JavaScript. Any additional experience with our stack is a bonus: Swift/Kotlin/C#/JavaScript (native apps) or JavaScript/Perl/Go (search).


Experience with at least one WebView technology (WebKit, WebView2, Chromium WebView, etc.) and understanding of browser security models (SOP, CSP, CORS, SameSite cookies)


Hands-on experience identifying and exploiting web vulnerabilities (XSS, CSRF, injection attacks, authorization flaws, etc.)


Familiarity with security testing tools and frameworks


Experience partnering and collaborating with Product Engineers, advising on security matters and helping teams ship secure code faster

About You

7+ years of professional experience, primarily focused on backend engineering, with demonstrable experience of working on at least one large application.


A fundamental understanding of complex data structures and algorithms — you can develop and apply new solutions and confidently navigate and improve existing code. If you're curious, we mostly use Perl.


Data-driven reasoning and analytical skills and the ability to apply them to make decisions, facilitate stakeholder alignment, and deliver projects in an experiment-oriented environment.


Effective project management skills.

We’re looking for a Senior iOS Engineer to help shape our all-in-one privacy solution and join our mission to show the world that protecting your privacy online can be simple.



The Opportunity


In this role, you will autonomously lead highly impactful projects that scale across millions of users from proposal through to postmortem assessing vague problems, proposing high impact solutions, and executing them against a set of success criteria. You will also:



Step up to resolve product issues – large and small.


Identify opportunities to increase searches and enhance the standard of trust online.


Own major application features and take responsibility for their maintenance and improvement over time.


Collaborate with peers remotely during product brainstorms, technical design discussions, pair programming sessions and code reviews.


Write pragmatic, performant, and testable code that works consistently across devices.


Always work to improve the quality of the codebase.



What You Will Bring to DuckDuckGo


Ability to lead and collaborate on high-impact and complex projects from proposal through post-mortem.


Skills to wrangle vague problems, propose innovative solutions, and execute them with a strong focus on metrics.


Significant iOS engineering experience (7+ years), with experience working on at least two large native iOS applications.


Experience programming in Swift.


Deep understanding of software design patterns such as MVVM, MVP, etc., mobile threading, and memory management, and how they apply to mobile applications.


A fundamental understanding of complex data structures and algorithms.


Ability to leverage both quantitative and qualitative data and to collaborate with a cross-functional team to develop effective UX solutions.


Excellent communication skills. You can validate your decisions and communicate them clearly

Compensation


Annual compensation for this role is $178,500 USD plus stock options. Compensation is the same within a professional level, regardless of geographic location or functional area, and the compensation for each professional level is transparent across the organization.



Eligibility for company-sponsored health benefits is limited to team members based in the United States. This program does not extend to team members located in other countries, such as Canada or the UK.

Your team and role

Working on the Android Functional Team, you'll build secure, privacy-focused applications for Android devices, using Kotlin, Maestro and Graphite, and work on related projects. Recent projects include:

About You

Extensive Android engineering background (7+ years) with experience working on at least two large native Android applications.
