As a Machine Learning Intern at Pinterest, you’ll work on tackling new challenges in machine learning and artificial intelligence. Throughout your internship, you’ll join our engineering teams as we maneuver through exponential growth and massive scale while building awesome products and features, creating visually rich experiences, spearheading the discovery problem, and pinpointing tomorrow’s engineering challenges.



What you’ll do:

What we are looking for:


Working towards a Master's degree in Computer Science, ML, NLP, Statistics, Information Sciences or related field

Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop/Spark) and scalable realtime systems that process stream data

Proficiency in at least one systems language (Java, C++, Python) or one ML framework (Tensorflow, Pytorch, MLFlow)

Strong communicator and team player with the ability to find solutions for open-ended problems

As a Data Scientist you will shape the future of people-facing and business-facing products we build at Pinterest. Your expertise in quantitative modeling, experimentation and algorithms will be utilized to solve some of the most complex engineering challenges at the company. You will collaborate on a wide array of product and business problems with a diverse set of cross-functional partners across Product, Engineering, Design, Research, Product Analytics, Data Engineering and others. What you’ll do

Bring scientific rigor and statistical methods to the challenges of product creation, development and improvement with an appreciation for the behaviors of our Pinners

Build and prototype analysis pipelines iteratively to provide insights at scale while developing comprehensive knowledge of data structures and metrics, advocating for changes where needed for product development

Work cross-functionally to build and communicate key insights, and collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, designers, and researchers to help build the next experiences on Pinterest

What we’re looking for


4+ years of experience analyzing data in a fast-paced, data-driven environment with proven ability to apply scientific methods to solve real-world problems on web-scale data

Extensive experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches including in the fields of Machine Learning, Statistical Modeling, Forecasting, Econometrics or other related fields

Experience using machine learning and deep learning frameworks, such as PyTorch, TensorFlow or scikit-learn

A scientifically rigorous approach to analysis and data, and a well-tuned sense of skepticism, attention to detail and commitment to high-quality, results-oriented output

Ability to manipulate large data sets with high dimensionality and complexity; fluency in SQL (or other database languages) and a scripting language (Python or R)

Excellent communication skills and ability to explain learnings to both technical and non-technical partners

We're seeking a talented Senior Staff Software Engineer to take on a leadership role within the Programmatic Ads team. You will lead critical efforts within the team to build high throughput, low latency, solutions which power Pinterest ads business with third party partners. You will build the team roadmap and leverage state-of-the-art serving infrastructure to efficiently and effectively serve ads to Pinterest users across all surfaces, via fulfillment from third party buyers leveraging programmatic ads standards.


The Programmatic Ads team integrates with external demand partners (DSPs, SSPs, etc) through OpenRTB. We drive performance optimization (latency, conversion, engagement, fill rate, etc) for our programmatic ad products. We are also responsible for building internal tools to better enable cross-functional teams.


What you’ll do:


Take on the challenge of defining and executing the technical strategy for building, scaling, and modernizing our third party ads serving infrastructure

Rearchitect and refine the infrastructure to achieve greater scalability, freshness, and performance handling billions of ads and millions of QPS

Lead the collaboration with ML, product, infra, and other partner teams to evaluate the infra requests and make funding decisions

Lead mission critical initiatives involving 15-25 engineers and directly influence their day to day work through mentorship and leadership

What we’re looking for:


BS (or higher) degree in Computer Science, or a related field

8+ years of professional experience as a hands-on engineer and technical leader leading multiple projects

5+ years of relevant industry experience within the ads domain and distributed systems

Rich experience in working cross functionally to drive alignment, oversee execution, and secure deliverables

Hands on experience in solving complex scaling, latency, or low-level system performance problems in high-volume online serving systems

Knowledge of industry best practices and trends, and proven track record employing such solutions

Experience in mentoring, guiding and up-leveling junior engineers

Experience solving end-user problems and envisioning solutions to improve their productivity

Proficiency in at least one of the system languages (Java, Python)

Within the Ads Ranking team, we try to connect the dots between the aspirations of Pinners and the products offered by our partners. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing a vision for the evolution of the machine learning technology stack for the conversion modeling team. You will work on tackling new challenges such as user sequence modeling, embedding features, model quantization, utility alignment, RoAS optimization and many more to advance the ML models that power the heavy ranker stage and delivery that bring together pinners and partners in this unique marketplace.


What you’ll do:


Execute the development of state-of-the-art applied machine learning projects for the ads conversion modeling team

Coach and mentor engineers for the conversion modeling team

Design features and build large-scale machine learning models to improve user ads action prediction with low latency

Develop new techniques for inferring user interests from online activity

Mine text, visual, user signals to better understand user intention

Work with product and sales teams to design and implement new ad products

What we’re looking for:


MS or PhD degree in Computer Science, Statistics or related field

3+ years of industry experience building large-scale machine learning models, with experience in ranking and recommender systems (e.g., search, recommendations, personalization).

Strong mathematical skills with knowledge of statistical methods

Cross-functional collaborator and strong communicator

Background in computational advertising is preferred, but not required

We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our marketing org. As a Data Scientist you introduce greater scientific rigor into the marketing measurement and optimization processes to shape Pinterest’s revenue growth and marketing strategy. The results of your work will influence and drive strategic decisions for the company - identify investment opportunities for growth, understand revenue growth and behavior, and define metrics to grow and sustain our advertiser base. You will collaborate on a wide array of business problems with a diverse set of cross-functional partners across Marketing, Product, Engineering, Analytics and others.


The role is within the Marketing team and would be supporting business marketing efforts focused on driving revenue growth for Pinterest.


What you’ll do:


Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of advanced marketing measurement frameworks and statistical models to quantify marketing ROI. Marketing channels could be different paid media, organic social, email, in person events, webinars, elearning platform etc.

Build and deploy statistical and machine learning models such as propensity, forecasting, and lifetime value (LTV) models—to optimize marketing strategies and enhance audience targeting.

Develop and refine attribution methodologies to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing initiatives across multiple channels.

Assess the incremental impact of marketing activities using causal inference techniques and testing/experiment frameworks.

Conduct deep, strategic analyses to address key business questions, such as how to improve marketing ROI, how to improve marketing budget allocation to optimize the business impact, measuring the impact of marketing in both mature and new markets, identifying opportunities to increase advertiser growth and revenue through marketing initiatives

Translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable insights and strategic recommendations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.

Design, maintain, and promote dashboards and automated reporting tools to empower stakeholders with self-serve, data-driven decision-making capabilities. Build and optimize ETL data pipelines to automate reporting, support deep dive analysis and feature engineering for analytical models.

What we’re looking for:


5+ years of combined post-graduate academic and industry experience applying scientific methods to solve real-world problems.

Masters degree in a quantitative field such as mathematics, statistics, computer science or engineering.

Hands-on experiences with building marketing measurement solutions to quantify the business impact of marketing tactics and investments.

Strong background in statistics and quantitative analysis, with experience in applying advanced statistical techniques to real-world problems.

Expertise in at least one scripting language (ideally Python/R). Proficiency in SQL/Hive. Ability to write efficient SQL queries.

Strong business and product sense. Strong skills in shaping vague questions into well-defined analyses and success metrics that drive business decisions.

Excellent communication skills, able to lead initiatives and communicate findings to the leadership and cross-functional teams. Explains work and thought processes clearly and concisely.

Experience leading key technical projects.

Understanding and improving how we optimize ads through the ads delivery funnel to Pinners is fundamental to Pinterest’s long-term success. We are looking for a Staff Data Scientist for our Engagement Ecosystem. You will shape the future of people-facing and business-facing products we build at Pinterest. What we’re looking for


10+ years of hands-on experience in web-scale data environments, with a track record of solving hard, ambiguous problems in product, engagement, or ecosystem analytics.

What you’ll do


Be the technical lead for the forecasting team. Own the strategy and implementation of forecasting models of key company metrics (e.g., monthly active users), delivering accurate, interpretable forecasts at scale.

Lead the full modeling lifecycle end to end: problem framing, feature engineering, model development and prototyping, experimentation and backtesting, deployment, monitoring/drift detection, and explainability.

Set the forecasting technical vision. Define model architectures and standards, and partner with Engineering to shape the forecasting platform for efficient training/inference today and the scalability needed for the next generation of models.

Translate forecasts into decisions. Present outputs, scenario analyses, and recommendation frameworks to senior leadership with clarity and brevity. This is a high‑visibility role with regular VP-level exposure.

Drive broader time‑series impact beyond point forecasts—e.g., anomaly detection, automated root‑cause analysis, campaign/channel attribution, and early‑warning signals for business health.

Embed forecasting into the business. Partner with BizOps/Finance and product teams to integrate forecasts and insights into operational rhythms, executive decision-making, and strategic planning.

Lead and mentor. Guide the work of at least two data scientists, raising the bar on technical quality, execution, and impact through candid, continuous feedback and coaching.




What we’re looking for


8+ years of combined post-graduate academic and industry experience building and shipping production time‑series/forecasting models with web‑scale data.

A track record of delivering adjustable, well‑calibrated, and explainable forecasting systems that informing decision-making.

Strong background in time‑series modeling and applied statistics/econometrics; advanced degree (MS or PhD) preferred.

Expertise in at least one scripting language (ideally Python).

Strong SQL skills (Hive/Presto/Spark SQL) and experience building reliable data pipelines/workflows (e.g., Airflow).
