Allegion is seeking a Senior Director, Platform Engineering & Reliability with deep expertise in Platform Engineering, DevOps, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE). In this role, you will set strategic direction for our platform engineering and DevOps & SRE teams across a broad portfolio of product lines, responsible for defining best practices for CI/CD, observability, security, and performance. In this role, you will partner closely with cross-functional leadership to ensure our platform is secure, reliable, and extensible.

What you’ll do:

Strategic Leadership & Team Management

Provide day‑to‑day leadership for global Web Platform, DevOps, and SRE organizations, including multiple Directors and senior engineering leaders.

Translate business objectives into clear engineering strategies, resource plans, and delivery roadmaps; create clarity amid changing priorities.

Establish predictable execution with program governance: scope, milestones, budgets, dependencies, and risk registers across all committed projects.

Instill an ownership mindset and accountability through clear goals (OKRs), dashboards, and regular business/technical reviews.

Engineering Excellence & Operational Rigor

Scale enterprise-wide SDLC practices across teams spanning coding standards, peer reviews, release orchestration, CI/CD, observability, compliance automation, performance, and resiliency, and—to ensure consistency across all product lines.

Own technical stack strategy: ensure the right technologies are selected for longevity, security, and maintainability; drive consolidation and deprecation of duplicative stacks and tooling.

Provide direction and oversight for architectural decisions (reference architectures, ADRs, design reviews); ensure solutions meet scalability, security, privacy, and compliance requirements.

Dive deep when needed: read code, inspect pipelines, query logs/metrics/traces, and participate in design/debug sessions to unblock delivery—leadership is necessary but not sufficient.

Identify, mitigate, and track risks and cross‑team dependencies; maintain transparent risk registers and action plans with clear owners and due dates.

Set executive-level KPIs to drive consistent delivery tracking (deployment frequency, lead time for changes, change failure rate), capacity planning, tech‑debt, reliability across roadmap and regularly report progress to the VP of Software Engineering and other key stakeholders

Site-Reliability Engineering

Drive the centralization and standardization of observability platforms (metrics, logging, tracing) to deliver end-to-end visibility across all services and infrastructure domains

Design and institutionalize the incident response and on‑call process (runbooks, escalation paths, blameless postmortems, SLIs/SLOs/error budgets) to ensure reliability and rapid recovery.

Stand up engineering scorecards and reviews covering reliability (SLO attainment, incident MTTR/MTTD), performance, security posture, and delivery predictability.

Ensure cost visibility for platforms and cloud services; optimize for efficiency without compromising reliability or velocity.

Forge strategic partnerships with Security, Compliance, and Network teams to integrate reliability requirements into broader governance and risk management programs (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2)

Cross-Functional Partnership

Serve as a key partner to senior leadership, providing regular updates on engineering initiatives, risks, and opportunities.

Serve as liaison between Product Management, Hardware Engineering, Security, Compliance, Customer Success, and General Managers (GMs) to align priorities, roadmaps, and ensure integrated, end-to-end solutions that meet stringent safety and regulatory requirements.

Tightly integrate platform engineering with application teams to accelerate product velocity and shared platform adoption.

Advocate for engineering best practices and innovation across the broader organization.

People Leadership & Team Development

Build, coach, and develop a high‑performing leadership bench; raise the bar on technical acumen, operational discipline, and ownership culture.

Create an environment where teams can operate with autonomy and low context while maintaining high accountability to outcomes.

Recruit, retain, and develop diverse talent; model inclusive, psychologically safe, and high‑trust engineering behaviors.

Improve team health with clear career frameworks, leveling guides, and technical leadership paths (Staff/Principal/Architect).

What you need to succeed:

15+ years in software engineering with 8+ years in multi‑team leadership (Director/Senior Director) across Web Platform, DevOps, and/or SRE at scale.

Proven record establishing mature engineering practices and leading organizations through change while delivering complex programs predictably.

Demonstrated success selecting and consolidating technology stacks; experience with architectural governance (ADRs, reference architectures, platform standards).

Deep understanding of modern web platforms (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, micro frontends, APIs), cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP), CI/CD, containers/orchestration, and SRE principles.

Hands‑on technical depth: ability to read code, review designs, inspect pipelines/telemetry, and guide teams through complex debugging and performance/resiliency challenges.

Strong SRE background: incident management, observability, SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, capacity planning

Experience managing distributed global teams and multiple leaders; strong stakeholder management with Product, Hardware, and Business executives.

Excellent communication and executive presence; crisp at translating between technical detail and business impact.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in physical security, IoT, or access control industries

Familiarity with embedded firmware release pipelines and OTA update mechanisms

Prior success in regulated environments (FIPS, HIPAA, or government/defense)

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field

Success Measures (First 6–12 Months)

Stack strategy defined and approved; consolidation roadmap with clear TCO and risk/benefit analysis in execution.

Incident response program operational with on‑call rotations, runbooks, and postmortems; measurable improvements in MTTD/MTTR and SLO attainment.

Architecture governance operating (design reviews, ADR cadence, standards baseline) with adoption across product lines.

Predictable delivery across committed projects with transparent capacity, dependency tracking, and risk management.

Improved developer experience and platform adoption metrics (build times, deploy frequency, change failure rate, lead time for changes).

Leadership bench strengthened, upward trends in engagement, retention, and performance outcomes.
