We are the Strategic Partnerships & Affiliates team in the Expedia Product & Technology division of Expedia Group. We are building the next-generation, scalable B2B partnership platform that will power hundreds of thousands of demand partners across the industry ranging from big businesses and Enterprises to small bloggers, micro influencers and creators in helping them recommend Expedia Group brands to their audiences and in the process grow their businesses. In this role, you will:

Collaborate cross-functionally with UX designers, product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to solve problems and deliver high-quality solutions

Engage proactively with managers, peers, and subject matter experts to enhance project outcomes and address complex requirements

Design and develop iOS experiences using best engineering practices, clean code principles, and thoughtful architecture to meet product goals

Integrate mobile solutions with services and systems, applying knowledge of backend and GraphQL schema design to meet product requirements

Explore and apply emerging technologies, including AI, to improve product outcomes and engineering efficiency

Think strategically and execute effectively, applying organizational standards, completing tasks with supporting data, and contributing to holistic, scalable solutions

Minimum qualifications:

5+ years of experience in iOS software development with a Bachelor's degree or 3+ years of experience with a Master's degree

Deep understanding of iOS development and SwiftUI

Experience architecting scalable, modular, and maintainable iOS mobile architectures, leveraging common design patterns such as MVVM, VIPER

Expert in API integration, Performance & Memory management

Proven ability to collaborate among peers, leaders and across functions and business groups

Familiarity with testing and monitoring tools

Ability to create effective automation and unit tests

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience integrating iOS applications with GraphQL APIs, including designing data queries, handling network responses, and optimizing for performance and reliability

The total cash range for this position in San Jose is $149,000.00 to $208,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $238,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.

- Lifecycle Enhancement: Participate in and enhance the entire lifecycle of the server fleet - from system design/introduction consultation to launch reviews, deployment, operation, and retirement.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Experience in at least one of the areas below:

- Server Operations: Demonstrated proficiency in Linux system administration tasks. Possessed an in-depth comprehension of Linux kernels, drivers, and modules. Preferred Qualifications:

- 3 years of work experience in related filed.

- Data Center: An intermediate level of expertise is preferred. We are looking for individuals who are proficient in areas ranging from OS installations and break-fix operations to significant projects such as planning and operations (encompassing the entire infrastructure lifecycle), as well as new design-build or retrofit activities for existing systems.

- Proficiency in the operation and maintenance of GPU server is strongly preferred.

【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description (Annually)

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $87480 - $228000 annually.​

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.​

Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Principal Software Development Engineer

Our Technology Team partners with teams across Expedia Group to create innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high-quality experiences for travelers, partners, and our employees. A singular technology platform powered by data and machine learning provides secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences that drive loyalty and traveler satisfaction.

We’re seeking a motivated Principal Software Development Engineer with a passion for technology, problem solving, and out-of-the-box thinking to be part of our Runtime Team. Our team is responsible for building a container platform with a suite of capabilities to enable our developers to rapidly deploy and scale containerized workloads.

What you’ll do:

As a Principal Engineer you will be part of an agile development team with lots of Linux, cloud, and containerization experience. You will play a key role in crafting the strategic technical goals for our group. The main effort will involve leading the architecture, design and building a compute runtime platform based on Kubernetes that will be used by all engineering teams across Expedia. You will provide technical leadership for a dynamic and growing engineering organization. You will work alongside a talented group of product managers and other technical leaders to deliver best-in-class capabilities to our Expedia developer community, and as a result help shape the future of online travel.

In this role, you will: 

Design and Implement Core Platform Components: Evolve our Kubernetes-based environment, focusing on areas like multi-tenancy, network policy, resource management, and service mesh integration (e.g., Istio, Linkerd).

Architect for Scale and Reliability: Lead the technical design for scaling our control plane and data plane to handle a 10x increase in services and traffic. Define and implement SLOs for the platform itself.

Improve the Developer Control Plane: Design and build the next generation of our CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows. Drive the strategy for our internal developer portal (e.g., Backstage) to unify tooling, documentation, and service lifecycle management.

Automate Infrastructure Lifecycle: Author and maintain production-grade Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and/or Crossplane. Eliminate manual toil by automating cluster provisioning, node lifecycle, and dependency upgrades.

Technical Leadership and Mentorship: Act as a force multiplier. Mentor senior engineers on the team, lead architecture review sessions, and author RFCs to build consensus on significant technical decisions. Your influence will extend beyond the team to application developers and SREs.

Production Debugging: Serve as the final escalation point for complex, cross-cutting production incidents that involve the underlying platform, from kernel-level issues to CNI bugs to distributed system failures.

Collaborate across product management, architecture, and engineering leads to deliver capabilities that enable our developer community to function at a high capacity
