Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

Our mission to entertain the world is anchored in our content and conversation about our content, and data is a crucial component in shaping our comprehensive strategy. As we envision the future of Netflix, we're seeking an Analytics Engineer Intern to join our scaling team and multiply the impact of data practitioners across the organization. This role will leverage cutting-edge technology to build infrastructure, tools, and frameworks that enable analysts, data scientists, and business partners to access insights faster and more efficiently.

The ideal candidate for this role will have a solid foundation in data technologies, an appreciation for simplifying complex systems, and a passion for building infrastructure that enables fellow data practitioners. You're excited about creating tools and systems that multiply impact across data teams, not just delivering individual analyses.

Check out this blog post to get a better feel for what it’s like to be an Analytics Engineer at Netflix.

Who Are You?:

Currently pursuing a Master’s or PhD degree in a related analytics field graduating in December 2026, Summer 2027 or later.

To be intern-eligible, you must be returning to school for one semester or quarter post-Summer internship.

Proficient in Big Data SQL (e.g., Spark, Trino) and pipeline orchestration (e.g., Airflow, Metaflow).

Experienced in building reusable analytics infrastructure (data models, metric frameworks) and designing scalable self-service BI/visualization solutions (e.g., Tableau, Looker).

A strong communicator who can develop, own, and deepen strong relationships with a wide variety of non-technical and technical stakeholders.

Comfortable with ambiguity and able to thrive with minimal process.

Analytically minded, bringing data solutions and business impact together while having autonomy in managing cross-functional projects.

An individual who pays attention to the details and makes a conscious effort to understand causes instead of just the effects.

An individual with a growth mindset who is impact-driven, and has a strong desire for growing a broad set of technical and non-technical skills.

What will you learn?:

You will build scalable tools, frameworks, and infrastructure that enable data practitioners across the organization to deliver insights more efficiently.

You will develop reusable data pipelines, automated workflows, and self-service analytics solutions that reduce manual effort and accelerate decision-making.

You will partner with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to identify scaling opportunities and translate them into technical solutions that multiply impact across teams.

You will contribute to the evolution of our analytics platform by prototyping new capabilities and testing innovative approaches to insight delivery.

Internships at Netflix

At Netflix, we offer a personalized experience for interns, and our aim is to offer an experience that mimics what it is like to actually work here. We match qualified interns with projects and groups based on interests and skill sets, and fully embed interns within those groups for the summer. Netflix is a unique place to work and we live by our values, so it's worth learning more about our culture.

Internships are paid and are a minimum of 12 weeks, with a choice of a few fixed start dates in May or June 2026 to accommodate varying school calendars. Conditions permitting, our summer internships will be located in our Los Gatos, CA office, or in our Los Angeles, CA office, depending on the team.

At Netflix, we carefully consider a wide range of compensation factors to determine the Intern top of market. We rely on market indicators to determine compensation and consider your specific job, skills, and experience to get it right. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary and will also be dependent on your location.

The overall market range for Netflix Internships is typically $40/hour - $110/hour.

This market range is based on total compensation (vs. only base salary), which is in line with our compensation philosophy. Netflix is a unique culture and environment. Learn more here.

Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

Netflix has been changing the way people watch shows and movies, and we've built a global Content Delivery Network called Open Connect, which sets the standard for video delivery.  We have also recently embarked on a journey to expand into cloud games, stream our content live, serve ads, and more. All this creates an exciting variety of opportunities and technical challenges.

To embrace all these challenges, we are looking to add a software engineer with expertise in building scalable distributed systems solutions, informed by analytics, to the Open Connect Control Plane team to continue to craft the scalable, reliable systems needed to build and scale all our offerings.

The role involves building:

Cloud services that customers directly hit when they press ‘Play’.

Algorithms that smartly steer customers to Open Connect appliances such that they have the best possible Quality-of-Experience, taking into account network latencies, resource availability, and other factors.

Algorithms to understand and optimize hardware utilization and cost efficiency, evaluated against intuitive and business-critical performance metrics.

Operational knobs and tools to quickly diagnose and fix problems as they arise.

We spend our time trying to answer questions like these:

What do we need to build in order to be a cost efficient and resilient platform?

How do we design our models and systems to adapt appropriately to heterogeneous resource availability, and demand, including in real-time?

How do we build scalable solutions that automate deploying content to servers in our CDN globally as fast as possible, while not impacting performance metrics?

How do we build knobs/visibility/alerting to effectively and scalably operate complex systems?

How do we make our optimization approaches easy to operate and understand?

What are the performance metrics we can evaluate our systems against over-time?

We are looking for someone who identifies with the following:

You build robust, responsive, and scalable systems.

You care about building quality software that your teammates can support.

You are familiar with parametrizing your problem and optimization algorithms.

You have a passion for operational excellence, educating others, and rigor.

You use a data-driven approach when helpful to inform your design decisions.

You are comfortable with ambiguity.

You are able to iterate quickly on ideas and incorporate feedback.

You believe that fostering an inclusive environment helps everyone do their best work.

Basic Qualifications:

Distributed Systems Experience (e.g. Java).

5+ years of software development.

Experience building and operating business-critical, real-time systems at scale.

Basic background in networking concepts.

Analytics experience (e.g. experience with Python or SQL or Notebooks, etc.).

Nice To Have:

Behavioral modeling (e.g. experience with Tensorflow, Spark, Presto, etc.).

At Netflix, we carefully consider a wide range of compensation factors to determine your personal top of the market. We rely on market indicators to determine compensation and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to get it right.
