What You'll Do

Epic Games is seeking an experienced Gameplay/AI Systems Programmer with an interest in Machine Learning (ML) / Large Language Models (LLMs) to join the Fortnite Game Foundations team. Our group develops new technology for Unreal Engine 6, with a focus on adapting Fortnite’s systems to it. Using Scene Graph and Verse, you will help redefine Fortnite’s systems in this new framework. This is a rare opportunity to help shape Epic’s game engine while contributing to one of the world’s most acclaimed games.


In this role, you will

Drive initiatives with minimal oversight to build strong, performant foundations that will last for years

Analyze current Fortnite LLM systems and develop a strategic plan to unify them into NPC systems

Tackle complex low-level problems to optimize or deliver high-performance systems

Ensure high-quality user experiences across all supported platforms, with attention to usability for developers new to UEFN

What we're looking for

Professional game development experience, including shipping AAA titles featuring gameplay AI

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, self-motivated and able to work independently

Strong understanding of gameplay AI systems such as Behaviour Trees, Finite State Machines, and Pathfinding 

Strong C++ skills for building efficient gameplay AI systems and tools

Empathy for creators new to programming and game development, with a drive to make AI easy to use without losing flexibility or power

Experience with live service games and consoles is a plus

Experience or interest in Machine Learning or LLM technologies; prior exposure through work, courses, or personal projects is a bonus

What You'll Do

We're looking for a highly detail-oriented Senior Engine Programmer to own the stability, speed, and reliability of our mission-critical automated build and integration systems. You will act as a critical technical bridge between Programming, Art, and Design teams, ensuring the reliability of our build pipeline. You will immediately impact developer productivity by driving down failure rates, optimizing build times, and implementing preventative measures to maintain a high-quality codebase.


In this role, you will

Work within our in-house build orchestration to monitor system health, implement systematic troubleshooting, and perform root cause analysis to prevent recurring issues

Implement and manage quality gates, including static code analysis and data validation tools, ensuring all code merges meet high standards before reaching development branches

Provide timely, clear incident communication and technical documentation while driving cross-team collaboration to resolve complex, cross-system errors

Proactively identify error patterns and bottlenecks in the build process and champion a continuous improvement mindset by proposing and implementing workflow optimization solutions

Design, implement, and maintain tools to enhance the efficiency of build workflows, system diagnostics, and reporting

What we're looking for

Excellent C++ skills

A proactive problem-solver with a strong background in large-scale software development environments, and system diagnostics

Strong capability in debugging complex build failures, performing root cause analysis, and implementing diagnostics and error logging

Deep familiarity with modern source control systems (Perforce and/or Git), including branching, merging, and build triggering mechanisms

What You'll Do

Epic Games seeks an experienced Senior Engine Programmer to join our Developer Experience and Efficiency team. In this role, you will

GAMEPLAY SYSTEMS INTERN

What You'll Do

We’re on the lookout for a passionate Gameplay Systems Intern to help shape a new project. This is your chance to have an impact on a key gameplay feature from concept to completion, bringing your creativity and technical skills together to craft unforgettable experiences for players. You’ll collaborate closely with talented programmers and visionary designers to build something truly special: an opportunity to contribute to a once-in-a-lifetime game in the gaming ecosystem.


In this role, you will

Work closely with design, animators, artists, and other developers to contribute to the design, implementation, and delivery of technical gameplay features and systems like player mechanics, character abilities, AI systems, vehicle mechanics, game flow systems or world systems, and more

Solve technical challenges and maintain gameplay features and systems that underpin our specific game’s features

Write robust, understandable, and maintainable code and systems

Diagnose and fix gameplay that could include memory, performance, networking, and scalability issues

What we're looking for

Self-motivated and solutions-focused

Great C++ & Blueprint skills and software programming experience

Interest in game feel and game design principles

Experience with designing and implementing systems on games made with Unreal Engine

A keen analytical mind with strong problem-solving skills

This internship has a flexible start date in 2026. Recruitment will be ongoing until teams find an ideal match.
