More information about this job:
Overview:
Does releasing code fast to production excite you? You feel constrained by keeping your code local and having to wait for ever for it to show up in production before an actual customer sees it?  Do you not only want to push code to production each day but also have a clear indication of its impact on user interaction and conversion?  Have you heard of or come up with improvements for our site and wondered, why haven’t we tried that? Do you want to have the findings of your work influence product backlogs across the organization?

If so, we have the opportunity for you!  We are excited to announce a new role  at Orbitz  Site Optimization UI Engineer.  This role will work closely with our product leaders, feature teams, engineers, UX designers, and the site optimization team to test as many ideas as physically possible, and to do so as fast as possible with the goal of learning through experimentation.  If you don’t like the idea of making multiple changes across the site each day and having several experiments running in production at once, then this isn’t the role for you. But, if you think you have the drive, ideas, and passion for testing and quick iteration then there is no better match then the role of Site Optimization UI Engineer.

The Site Optimization UI Engineer role will utilize client side testing tools to experiment daily in production. The focus of this role will be on running client side tests, providing input to help improve current frameworks, and build out more robust server side tests when needed.  While there are several teams across the org implementing a/b and multivariate experiments, this role will focus on fast client side tests that will often be injected directly into production outside of the standard release schedules across all areas and channels of the OWW global websites.

To succeed in this role you must possess a combination of curiosity, technical savvy, analytical skills, communication excellence, and a drive to push boundaries and move fast.  This is an excellent opportunity to make a significant contribution at Orbitz Worldwide.
Responsibilities:
  • Build, deploy, and monitor client side tests to production across all brands and channels
  • Participate in test idea and hypothesis generation
  • Iterate quickly on consumer-facing experiments across our global family of travel sites.
  • Write front-end code in JSP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Collaborating with Funnel Optimization to improve test framework capabilities
  • Collaborate with UX team and product verticals on UI and UX decisions.
  • Prototype experimental features.
  • Pro-actively look for ways to make our sites better.
  • Advocate for best practices, great usability and exceptional quality.
  • Gather, analyze, and present results of site optimization tests.
  • Socialize all changes being proposed/developed to relevant designers, QEs, developers, and product specialists.
Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of web development with HTML, JSP, and CSS/LESS.
  • Solid understanding of JavaScript and Ajax - with and without use of a library/framework.
  • Extreme curiosity about how features and the user experience can be improved and a high degree of innovation in looking for new alternatives to be tested.
  • A curiosity of data:  accessing it, looking at it, questioning it, and using it to tell a story.
  • Experience building consumer-facing features.
  • Demonstrated design and UX sensibilities.
  • Strong logic programming ability.
  • Understanding of client-side performance and how to improve it.
  • Experience with a version control systems.
  • A strong attention to detail.
  • Adobe Test & Target experience a plus.
  • Knowledge and curiosity of individual browsers’ strengths, quirks, and limitations.
