- Define and oversee management of the Performance Center infrastructure in coordination with Systems and Network Operations. Ensure Performance Test and monitoring tools are current and upgraded proactively.
- The Engineer will specify the requirements for Performance Test and Client Experience Monitoring tools to internal Operations resources and will interact closely with application development and internal tools software engineers. In addition, the Engineer will help consolidate, analyze, and present data in formal Performance Test and Client Experience monitoring guides containing formulas, scenarios, and best practices to other performance test team members.
- The Engineer will facilitate all aspects of Proof-of-Concept (POC’s) for Performance, Client Experience, and infrastructure monitoring tools.
- Develops and maintains automated test scenarios that measure and validate performance against requirements and according to the Performance Test Plan. This will include the scenario execution, analysis, reporting and presenting performance test results to stakeholders.
- Creates and documents performance test scripts based on service requirements that support the overall SDLC. Includes automated test scripts with LoadRunner. Is capable of working independently on the most challenging assignments with limited supervision.
- Utilizes diagnostic and monitoring tools to detect, isolate, and resolve performance issues throughout the technology stack. Will research and evaluate new diagnostic tools.
- Communicates the performance testing status to performance test lead, project team members and the test manager to ensure timelines and quality are met. Responsible for publishing daily and weekly status reports when needed by project teams.
- Responsible for facilitating check point meetings with customers and assigned testing resources to track the infrastructure build status and discuss any open/pending issues/concerns.
- The engineer will partner with Development to review development design documents to ensure performance and scalability is ”designed in” early in product development, and will collaborate with Developers to investigate thread contention issues, memory leaks, and other performance and scalability bottlenecks in the application and database layers, as well as measure, profile, and provide implementation recommendations.
- Responsible for maintaining performance measurement instrumentation used to observe application and infrastructure performance across diverse hardware, operating systems, application servers, and databases. Includes Client Experience Monitoring, transaction tracing with diagnostic tools to detect, isolate, and resolve performance issues throughout the technology stack.
- Mentor less senior team members. Shares expertise and provides guidance to others as required to assist the performance testing team.
- Mentor cross functional team members in performance test tools and practices that can be employed early SDLC. Shares expertise and provides guidance to others as required to assist the project testing team.
- Designs and executes performance tests to meet scalability test objectives created by Capacity Planning.
- Responsible for maintaining automated test environments and scripts for use in release to release and project performance test scenarios. Includes researching new and future performance test tools and technology.
- Responsible for creating and maintaining Client Experience monitors and on boarding new applications integrated with Real User Monitoring (RUM).
Qualifications
BS
in Computer Science preferred or equivalent experience. 7+ years
experience in IT functional and performance testing Experience with
automated testing tools a plus but not required. Or experience with
Network and Systems Operations.
7+ years combined with one or more of the following skill sets;
- Diverse technical background (i.e. platform, network, applications) with strong network and systems operations experience.
- testing applications on Windows and Unix/Linux platforms
- testing multi-tiered and distributed applications
- programming languages such as C++, Java, C, .Net, Delphi, Visual Studio
- shell scripting languages such as Perl, Bash
- Web servers IIS, SunOne
- Application servers such as HP Weblogic, Microsoft .Net, Jboss
- Databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, Informix
- Have used automated test tools like: Mercury LoadRunner, WinRunner, Quicktest Pro.
- Database or application tuning experience a plus
- Combined experience in any of the following: performance diagnostics, capacity planning, performance architecture design, performance tuning, performance monitoring, or code profiling.
- Hands-on experience with any of the following profiling or diagnostics tools: CA/Wily Introscope, HP/Mercury Diagnostics, , Yourkit, SoapUI Pro, Quest JProbe, JProfiler, Aternity, or Visual Studio Performance Tools.
- Hands-on experience with any of the following Client Experience monitoring tools: HP/Mercury Real User Monitor (RUM), HP/Mercury Business Process Monitor, Aternity Frontline Performance Intelligence.
