  • Writes purchase order justifications AND SPECIFICATIONS to internal Management for project related purchases.  
  • Acts as a vendor liaison by coordinating training, patching, and release efforts between Internal operations and 3rd party Vendors. This allows Paychex to keep 3rd party applications current and secure.
  • Advises upper management on engineering situations that have high impact to the infrastructure.
  • Performs ongoing performance tuning of operating system components to ensure that the environment is running at an optimum level.
  • Performs periodic performance and reporting to the internal operations management which supports long term capacity plans.
  • Researches and recommends innovative and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks to improve network and application efficiencies.
  • Develops and maintains installation and configuration procedures and standards that are used by all employees in the virtual infrastructure environment.
  • Confers with other IT Organizations in defining virtual infrastructure procedural standards for system startup and shutdown, backup and recovery, and operational procedures.  This is to develop consistent processes used by all employees in the virtual infrastructure.
  • Identifies and understands the work patterns and utilization of hardware and software resources of applications running in the virtual infrastructure so that an optimal configuration can be obtained.
  • Participates in development of technical requirements that are used for project efforts to build efficient virtual infrastructure environments.
  • Provides advice and guidance to all less experienced employees to aide in employee training and shares knowledge with junior employees.

Qualifications


BA/BS in Computer Science PREFERRED or related field with 6 years experience in information technology to include 4 years of Systems Administration experience preferred.  Hands-on experience with current virtual system technologies including VMware’s ESX, ESXi, and vCenter. The equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.  Candidate must be self-motivated, have the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and have a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.  24X7on call support.  VMware Certified Professional preferred. Working knowledge in Microsoft Desktop OS’s, Server OS’s, and Red Hat.  Experience with Change Management processes is strongly preferred.
